Emerald Academy of Dancing provides training in several different dance disciplines as listed below. The levels range from dancing for fitness or fun right through to students who learn at a vocational level.
Classical Ballet
Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus
Celebrated for its beauty, Classical Ballet is the traditional form of dance that evolved from the court dances of King Louis XIV in the 1600’s. Over time it has been refined to the skilled and artistic vision we see today.
At Emerald Academy we recommend students learn Classical Ballet first. A sound ballet technique provides an easy transition into other forms of dance. Ballet trains the body carefully, developing strength, control, coordination and line.
Exams are optional but recommended to encourage consistent improvement and progress.

Jazz
High energy and loads of fun jazz just keeps evolving. It's a fusion of vaudeville, cabaret, stage dance, film, street dance, video clips and ballet. Influences include Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Bob Fosse, Michael Jackson and Paula Abdul. From Broadway to Hip Hop, just about anything can be incorporated into Jazz.
Contemporary
Once considered avant-garde, Contemporary Dance developed alongside abstract music & art. Innovators such as Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham developed a unique movement vocabulary which has been embraced by major dance companies all over the world. More fluent and abstract Contemporary requires a solid ballet base.
Tap
Tap is back! In the last 10 years we've seen a re-emergence of Tap with Australia's own Dein Perry (Bootmen) taking it to another level, inspiring a new generation of tappers.
